To apply for an HFAB apartment, you must join the housing queue and accumulate queue points. You earn one queue point per day. Queue points are always reset to zero upon getting an apartment. This also applies to apartment swaps. Your accumulated queue points are not reset when you move out.
You can collect queue points from the day of your 16th birthday, but in order to apply for an apartment you must be 18 or older. You must have a Swedish national ID number to register for the housing queue online. If you don't have a Swedish national ID number, please contact our Customer Service for help with registration.
To stay in the housing queue, you have to confirm each year that you wish to do so. You do this by confirming or updating your registered contact information. If you don’t confirm once a year, you lose your queue points and your place in the queue.
Two ways to get an apartment
There are two ways to get an HFAB apartment, via queue points or by lottery. The majority of HFAB apartments are rented according to the queue point system. We offer five different types of accommodation that you can search for via Bosök; rental apartments, youth apartments, senior apartments, secure living apartments, or student apartments. How to search: Vacant apartments are listed on Bosök. On Bosök you also fill in your application. Apartments are always offered to the applicant with the most queue points.
How rental works:
•All vacant apartments are listed on Bosök for 5 days.
• Once the application period has run out, a credit check is done on the 5 applicants with the most queue points.
• Those 5 that meet HFAB's basic requirements are offered a viewing of the apartment.
• Each of the applicants has 5 days in which to view the apartment and notify whether or not they want it.
The applicant with the most queue points to accept the apartment after the viewing gets the rental agreement, provided that HFAB’s income requirements are met. Apartments that are almost immediately available for occupancy are assigned by lottery among those who have applied. These are called “direct apartments”. For those who haven’t accumulated that many queue points, direct apartments is a good way to get housing.
How rental of apartments assigned by lottery works:
• Direct apartments are listed on Bosök where you can submit your application on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 pm.
• Once the application period has run out, a computer system chooses a queue order among the applicants.
• The first 5 to be chosen that meet HFAB’s basic requirements will be offered a viewing.
• Each of the applicants has 5 days in which to view the apartment and notify whether or not they want it.
• The applicant first chosen of those who accept the apartment after the viewing gets the rental agreement, provided that HFAB’s income requirements are met.
You’re allowed a maximum of five apartment applications at any one time. If, after the viewing, you decline or fail to reply on five occasions within a six-month period, you will be barred from applying for apartments for three months; however, you continue to accumulate queue points even during this period.
